Landscape Overhaul

September 15, 2010 Comments

The majority of my landscaping project is now complete. Now all I have to do is pressure-wash the entire house, replace the rotting cellar door and remove all of the unnecessary cables dangling from the house.

D-Link DIR-825 and Static Routes

August 27, 2010 Comments

D-Link, for whatever reason, didn't deem it necessary to offer the ability to set LAN-side static routes in the DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router. Fortunately, someone took the time to figure out a workaround. Log in to the router and browse to Advanced -> Routing. Paste the following into your favorite text editor:

http://192.168.1.1/Advanced/Routing.shtmlconfig.route_table[0].enabled=true&config.route_table[0].used=1&config.route_table[0].entry_name=<description>&config.route_table[0].dest_ip=<destination>&config.route_table[0].metric=1&config.route_table[0].dlink=LAN&config.route_table[0].subnet=<subnet>&config.route_table[0].gw=<gateway>

Make note of the description, destination, subnet and gateway. Change these values (including the IP address) to suit your needs. When set, submit the customized URL to your browser. The page will refresh with your new static route. Do not edit these properties within the GUI itself. You must always use the URL.

To add additional routes, use the same method but increment each route_table[N] by one.

Sushihana

It's been said that Sushihana has some of the best sushi in San Antonio, TX. I'd have to agree.

If anyone knows where I can find a sweater like the older gentleman in this picture is wearing, I'd be eternally grateful.

EDIT: I found one from ChoiceShirts.com.

OpenStack

July 19, 2010 Comments

Rackspace officially announced today that we will be pairing up with the NASA Nebula developers in an Open Source project called OpenStack. We spent last week in Austin, TX at the first OpenStack design summit, so it's really exciting to see this take off.

We saw a ton of promise in the Nebula computing project built by NASA and are making it a core part of the project. Taking the contributions of Rackspace and NASA as a starting point, OpenStack forms a powerful foundation of technologies, including a scalable compute provisioning engine - OpenStack Compute - and a fully distributed storage engine - OpenStack Object Storage.

Read more about the project and learn how to contribute at OpenStack.org.

Fitger's Brewhouse

I'm enjoying a cold glass of Lighthouse Golden from Fitger's Brewhouse in Duluth, MN. I have to say, this is one of the best ales I've ever had - ranking right up there with Chimay Red.

The Salt Lick

The Salt Lick

The Salt Lick in Driftwood, TX has some of the best barbecue in Texas (even though the place kind of smells like the inside of a barn). It was even featured on Man v. Food. If you're ever in or around the Austin area, I highly recommend checking it out. The brisket was my favorite thing on the menu. You can also bring your own beer. :)
