Wow, this hurricane has really taken people by surprise. I found this image yesterday and was totally blown away at how far north it went. Hopefully things will turn out okay for all the folks down south.
I recently made a $500 donation to the American Red Cross (before the hurricane hit) and was slightly curious about where it would end up... now I have a pretty good idea, and am glad that I chose to donate to them. I encourage everyone to help out if it's within their means.

I'm sure you are all familiar with the recent (and consistent) rising of gas prices, so I wont get into it too deep. However, I will say this: With the cost of living rising at an extremely fast rate and our wages staying the same (and lowering in some cases), how does the Government expect us to live and support our families, especially with these taxes? Wouldn't you think this would raise a red flag to them?
Question: What happens when a person starts to pay more for gas a month than his/her vehicle payments and insurance combined, just to get to work and back?
Common Answer: Buy a 5-10 year old Geo Metro. They get about 40 miles per gallon and having another car payment is still cheaper than filling your 15-20MPG vehicles.
I look at that answer and laugh. What has this country come to? When it's cheaper to buy and extra car with better gas mileage than to fill your vans/trucks/SUVs, something obviously has to be done.
Let the rallies and riots begin.

The site is now running my very own OO Perl internal formatting engine instead of Text::MetaMarkup. You should not notice any changes other than an increase in speed. If you happen to come across any bugs, please contact me.

I put up a few utilities on my projects page that I have been working on recently. One thing that is not up yet is my IRC bot that I am writing in Perl. You can expect to see that up within the next month.
You might have noticed that I released this site under the Creative Commons license. In short, what it says is that you are free to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work on this site if you distribute the resulting work only under a license identical to this one.

Welcome to the return of my website. As you can see, I have made quite a few changes since my last revision. The biggest change is undoubtably the fact that I moved my backend from PHP to Perl, using the Text::MetaMarkup module, which makes writing new sections an easy task.
As far as the exterior goes, I decided to go with a design from OSWD called Contempo. I chose this design for its aesthetically appealing simplicity.
Content-wise, I plan to post and document several programming projects I am actively pursuing (including this site), along with other interesting articles that I may end up writing in the near future.
Check back soon for more updates. That is all.

It has been quite awhile since my last post, and as you can see, I've made several updates in the past few months. I got tired of that simple layout, so I decided to make a new one (obviously). I've removed the PC Software section as it was getting way too out of date, and I've almost completely re-written the PHP engine that this site runs on.
In other news, the server has been upgraded to a 1GHz PIII machine that's running Gentoo Linux.
More changes and updates to come!

Being a Senior in High School this year I am almost happy to say that school is back in session. Along with this little celebration came an extremely "old skool" design for jk0.org. Not too many people these days design web pages this simple, so I figured I would try something new. Enjoy!

The new theme is based on Slashcode's own open source website.
Also, the news section has been converted into an archive of all the past and present news articles to make it easier for viewers to find content.
The website will be under extreme contruction in the next couple days, please feel free to contact me if you see any errors.

I finally did it! I no longer use the Windows OS, as I have completely moved to the UNIX world once again. I now run Gentoo Linux on my main work station, and as always, FreeBSD on my servers. The move went smoothley, as expected. I encourage all of you to try some sort of Linux or BSD distro on your computer. You can't go wrong with Open Source.
Also, I got around to writing a Printer-Friendly module for my PHP engine. You have the option to use it on my resume if you feel the need to print it out.

I finally got around to setting up the mail server here at home. I am currently hosting two domains: jk0.org (obviously), and my retired domain, evilpigeon.net. I will consider handing out free e-mail address upon request here in the near future. As of now I only provide webmail access for those of you whom are concerned.
On another note: As of June 5th, 2003, school is out for the summer! I am taking advantage of the situation by driving down to Springfield, Illinois to visit all my friends that hang out in #null.
