My last day working for my current employer will be Friday, April 21st, 2006. I've decided to accept the Web Development position that was offered to me in Springfield, IL. It was probably one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. I thoroughly enjoy where I am at now, but in order to achieve my personal goals in life it is crucial that I take this to the next level.
I will probably be working from home for a few months until I move--although, I am still undecided as to whether or not I will actually be moving. That is what I love about this new job: a guy can do it from anywhere.

I've recently switched back to Mozilla Firefox after using the Opera Web Browser for several months. Opera started to crash on me way too often and the 1.5.x.x branch of Firefox now includes all of the features I liked in Opera to begin with. I also noticed that the newer Firefox is even faster than Opera.
Here are the extensions that I currently use:
- Paste and Go
- Fasterfox
- Tab Mix Plus
- PDF Download
I am also quite fond of the ability to search from the address bar by using keywords like you can in Opera.

Wow, this is probably one of the most disturbing photos I have ever seen. I can't even begin to imagine how horrible it must have been up in that burning building to make someone want to jump out of it, especially knowing there is absolutely no chance of survival.
The photograph was taken at 9:41:15 AM, on September 11, 2001, by a photographer named Richard Drew. Over 4 years later, they think they've finally identified the man as Jonathan Briley. Hopefully this will bring some sort of closure for his family.

Lately I've been playing around with the WordPress Plugin API and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with the wide range of functionality and control you have over the system using the hooks that are provided. To aid me in my learning experience, I figured the best way to learn the system would be to write a few plugins. So, that's exactly what I did.
If you haven't noticed, throughout the website there are now several acronyms linked. This is the result of my AutoAcro plugin, which (obviously) automatically links acronyms as they are spotted from within the content. I was inspired to do this by my previous Internal Formatting engine.
I also wrote a Contact Form plugin, which is currently being utilized on my contact page. It should be fairly obvious as to what this does.
Yes, I do plan on releasing these plugins. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to submit them to the main WordPress website because there are already similar ones there, but they will definitely be available here from within the projects section.

I love this time of year and the weather that comes along with it (most of the time). Unfortunately, some of my friends down in Springfield, IL experienced some pretty severe storms last night. As you can see from the thumbnails I've posted, there is quite a bit of damage done in certain parts of town. Apparently this was one of the biggest storms within the past 50 years. I am glad that everyone I know down there is safe and sound, although there are still a few without power.
Fortunately, most of the severe storms were just South of us up here in Wisconsin, so there was no loss of power or anything extravagant like that. But, at the end of the day, I am really happy to see it start to thunderstorm out more often. It's just a little reminder to me that Spring and Summer are getting closer. The Winter weather is getting a little old and I'm really excited to start being able to do outside activities. Bring on the warmth!

If you haven't noticed, I've gone back and imported all kinds of my old posts from various websites that I've run in the past. Some currently date back as far as April of 2001. I thought it would be kind of neat to have them all centralized into one database.
I am still searching for even older posts (1996 and up), so if you know of anything similar to Archive.org, please inform me.

We had our first bon fire of the year last night at my buddy's house. I helped haul the wood and beer in my truck, and I loved every minute of it. It was a great time, and the weather was perfect. A lot of my friends are home from college for Spring Break, so I got to see a few of them last night as well. I believe the temperature was somewhere around 68F yesterday. I really hope it stays this way.

Irssi is the IRC client of smart and beautiful people. It is definitely one of my favorite pieces of software ever written. When combined with Bitlbee (IRC to other chat networks gateway), it can't get any better. Everything about it is customizable: you have full control over the entire client from within various perl modules.
If you are an IRC user, I strongly recommend you look into using Irssi.

Mutt, in my opinion, is the greatest e-mail client available. When you add Procmail and Fetchmail to the mix, there is no stopping it.

As you can see, I've completely rebuilt this website. Why did I do this? Ease of use. By using WordPress as a journaling tool, as well as a Content Management System, I can easily write up new content as I see fit, with out having to go through all the trouble of manually doing so. WordPress also comes with a very handy search feature. So, by archiving all my content into the WP database, it can be easily searched.
I also went ahead and tweaked the default (Kubrick) theme to match my needs. There are still a few more kinks that need to be worked out, but it is ready to go for the most part.
What do I plan to do with this in the future?
- Private Photo Gallery
- Post and document my dotfile configs
- Release more software
- Write about current events in my life
- Whatever else I happen to find interesting
Stay tuned.
